Where's My Bump?

One of the unexpected things about being pregnant is that I have become completely obsessed with "showing." When I went to a Baby Shower this past weekend, no one could believe I am pregnant and when I said, "No, yes, I really am," they'd respond with, "But just barely....right?"

Well, I guess that depends on how you define "just barely." To me, the first trimester has been quite a hurdle, so it doesn't feel like "barely" anything. But to women farther along, I'm sure 13 weeks is no big thing. Regardless, I am READY for a baby bump. It's a badge of honor and I want to wear it, damnnit.

It's always struck me as odd that during the first few months, when you are struggling so much and feeling so terrible and really going through the most dramatic changes, you look exactly the same as normal. (Well, unless you check out my cleavage). I guess it's a good thing that we don't start showing earlier, because then it wouldn't be a choice to keep the news a secret. But on the other hand, you feel like there is no visible reason for how you are feeling. Later on, people gush over you, over you seats, inquire how you are feeling. But now? When I'm terribly ill? I get "Oh you must have JUST found out you're pregnant, right?"

Anyhow, in honor of my 2nd Trimester Posting Trilogy (weird, I didn't plan it this way), I've decided to post a "bump" pic. Ha. Actually it just looks a picture of my stomach and hips. Not too exciting. But, here you go.

The first picture is 6 (maybe 7?) weeks. You can tell I am a lot slimmer in general with definitely a smaller butt. It's funny, there almost looks to be more of a cute "bump" in that picture, but it was definitely the initial bloating. The second picture is this weekend, at 13 weeks. I wish I had gotten a better picture. The lighting is bad and it's a different shot than the first so it's hard to compare. But you can see I just look...wider. Not like there is a cute bump, just like I've grown. But I haven't gained any weight. Maybe it's all camera angle? *Sigh* Anyhow, that's me. Still feeling sick (but haven't thrown up in 5 days!!) and still looking like non-pregnant me.

P.S. About five minutes after I posted this, I had a rather dramatic puking episode. So much for my 5-day-stretch.

  1. I can see it- but only because you post the picture on the left. I think that it's more around 17-20 weeks that you really can see a bump. I'm looking forward to my own bump as well!

    1. Yes I think you're right. It takes time. I'm just impatient and ready to put it out there to the world!

  2. Look at your adorable belly! I can see it, too. It's just started to fill out a bit. And I disagree that you look bigger in the second photo aside from just the slight fullness to your tummy. I think the rest is just the camera angle!

    1. Aw you are so sweet. You should always tell women it's the camera angle. Although, in this case, I am going to agree with you, even if it's just to feel better about it ;)

  3. I would totally want to look pregnant by the second trimester too, so I can understand you. I'm so excited to buy maternity clothes and I'm not even pregnant! On the other hand, you may appreciate having a small belly by the third trimester if it means you can avoid stretch marks! lol

    1. Ooooh good point about the stretch marks! My mom made it through with none and everything I've read said it's genetic, so I'm hoping!

  4. It's going to come, it's going to come. The body is amazing, how everything readjustes, moves.... gets in place. I hope you are feeling better !

  5. Hi! I'm so glad you stopped by and said hi. It's been fun catching up on your story!
Just to one-up ya, during my first pregnancy I threw up every month except the 7th. I tell my daughter I didn't give birth to her, I threw her up (fortunate she's two and smarter than me so she just ignores me). I got so good at it, I could actually KEEP DRIVING and puke at the same time. I bet I really freaked out the other commuters sitting in traffic next to me. Hah.
Only ... in the last two months I'd puke so hard I'd pee myself. Hah on me.

    1. Welcome to my blog! I loved yours. But oh my god, every month except one?? That is terrible! Now I'm terrified! And your comment about driving and puking? All too close to home...I'm almost there. Yuck.

  6. The bump is coming your way! Mine started showing a little at 13 weeks, but it wasn't until about 17 weeks that people could actually tell that I'm pregnant.

(Btw, hello! My first comment on your blog, though I've been following your journey for some time. I hope the "morning" sickness leaves you alone soon.)

    1. Welcome!! I'll keep my fingers crossed. We go on a vacation at 18 weeks and I'm really hoping people can tell I'm visibly pregnant (if only maybe to get good service on the airplane, etc - ha!).

  7. So you got boobs and no bump and I've got the bump and no boobs. Of course, I have 2 in there but I am still shocked at just how pregnant I look. I may have to post a bump pic soon. Don't worry, you will get the bump soon enough and then it will just keep growing and growing ;)

    1. Ohhh so unfair Jen! I read this to my husband and he said, "See, I told you to stop complaining!" You have to post a pic! I really want to see the twin belly :)

  8. I am in the same boat, lady! I also took two "bump" pics and they look IDENTICAL to these... in fact, my 12-week one looks slimmer than my 8-week one. I'm gonna post these only when I have an ACTUAL bump to show people, I think, but that might not be for, like, another two months.

    1. Glad to know I'm not alone here. Isn't it weird how much you suddenly want to show? Or is that just me?

  9. Also gaggin' for a bump! And 13 weeks is such a hurdle - no small milestone. Congrats!

  10. You have a cute belly starting to show! I can see a difference! I was showing a little bit early, but people didn't notice I was pregnant. I really really wanted people to notice!! I know what you mean - a belly is one of my favorite things about being pregnant :-) I bet you'll be popping in no time!

  11. I look back at my early bump pics and I can see it now, but only because I have a huge one to compare it to now. LOL it will pop very soon and then it will not stop!

  12. Aww, you are so tiny and adorable!

  13. Thank you for this post! I am 13-1/2 weeks and only I can tell I'm showing. I agree that the bump is a badge of honor. I'm thinking that once it starts though, the next few weeks, it will grow quickly, especially since the baby is doubling size every 2 weeks.
